Stop using a door that appears unstable, off track, unusually heavy or unable to secure. Do not handle garage-door springs or loose high-tension cables.
Start with power and controls
Confirm that the opener has power, the wall control is not in lock mode and the remote battery is not the only issue. If the opener lights and sounds normal but the door does not move, stop repeated attempts.
Look at the safety sensors
Check whether both sensor indicators are lit and whether anything blocks the beam near the floor. Do not bypass or defeat the safety sensors.
Inspect without touching high-tension parts
From a safe distance, look for a visible gap in the spring, loose cable, bent track or a roller that has left the track. Do not handle springs or cables.
Test the manual release only when safe
A door with a broken spring can be extremely heavy. Do not pull the release or attempt to lift the door if the door appears damaged, off track or unbalanced.
